The Eleventh Asia-Oceania Meteorological Satellite Users’ Conference (AOMSUC-11) was held in conjunction with 2021 FENGYUN Satellite User Conference (FYSUC-2021) from 28 October to 5 November 2021 in Beijing China.
Beginning in 2010, the China Meteorological Administration (CMA), the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA), the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA), the Australia Bureau of Meteorology (AuBOM), the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), and the Group on Earth Observations (GEO) joined forces as sponsors of the first Asia- Oceania Meteorological Satellite Users Conference (AOMSUC) in Beijing. At the 2014 Conference, Roshydromet (Russian Federation) joined the AOMSUC as a sponsor, and at the Seventeenth World Meteorological Congress in 2015, India and Indonesia also joined. Since that first conference, the conference was held annually in China (2010, 2014), Japan (2011, 2015), Korea (2012, 2016), Australia (2013, 2019), Russia (2017), and Indonesia (2018). The 11th AOMSUC was planned to be held in 2020, but with the COVID-19 pandemic, it was postponed until 2021.
In June 2016 the seven Permanent Representatives of Australia, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Russian Federation, and the Republic of Korea, together with the Secretary-General of WMO, signed the Memorandum on the Asia-Oceania Meteorological Satellite Users’ Conference (AOMSUC) during the sixty-eighth session of the WMO Executive Council in Geneva. The 2016 Memorandum codified the AOMSUC as a permanent mechanism for facilitating dialogue and improved collaboration among the space agencies and user communities of the Asia-Oceania region, and for enhancing the use of satellites for weather, climate, and disaster mitigation services.
AMOSUC-11 featured high-quality keynote, oral, and poster presentations, as well as panel discussions that address topical issues including 1) space program updates, 2) data access and products generation, 3) Forecasting, 4) Nowcasting, 5) climate monitoring and applications, 6) Belt and Road Initiative with special topics in the typhoon, heavy rain, fire, drought, and disaster, and 7) space weather. Due to the impact of the pandemic, the conferences was in a hybrid format with in-person and virtual sessions.
FYSUC-2021 sponsored by China Meteorological Administration (CMA) and China National Space Agency (CNSA) took place in virtually Beijing, China on 2nd November 2021. Experts from 50 countries and regions, World Meteorological Organization (WMO), National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), European Organization for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT) and European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) attend this conference which consisted of 22 reports from 10 countries.
