Overview
The first FENGYUN satellite international user conference sponsored by China Meteorological Administration (CMA) and China National Space Administration (CNSA) was held in Haikou, Hainan province of China from November 15th-17th, 2019. The purpose of this conference is building a platform for the FENGYUN satellite international users to exchange in-depth their applications, discussing over promoting global integrated application of FENGYUN satellites and better serving countries and users along Belt and Road. Experts from over 30 countries and regions, World Meteorological Organization (WMO), Asia-Pacific Space Cooperation Organization (APSCO), National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), European Organization for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT) and the Sixth International Strategic Consultative Committee on Chinese Meteorological Satellite Programmes (ISCC) attend this conference.
By 2019, China has successfully launched 17 FENGYUN meteorological satellites since 1988, among which 7 are in-orbit. China is one of the few countries that operate both geostationary and polar-orbiting satellites. Its satellite programme is one of the major components in the WMO Integrated Global Observation System (WIGOS) as well as the International Charter on Space and Major Disasters. It is now providing satellite data and products to around 2700 users from over 100 countries or regions. With consistent efforts on upgrading, operationalization and series-management, its comprehensive performance and international use have been greatly improved. The recent launch of Emergency Support Mechanism of FENGYUN Satellites is also another demonstration of China's contribution to its users worldwide.
